Lover's threat led to murder, say police
2008/2/26 14:53

A MAN who is alleged to have killed his lover after she threatened to tell his ex-wife about their love affair has been arrested by police in Qingpu District.

The victim, identified as Shen, was allegedly strangled by a man surnamed Wang during a fight at her home on February 17, police said. When Shen failed to show up for work the next day, the company, having failed to contact her, called her relatives.

They found her body in her apartment on Shenxiang Road in Qingpu District. She was lying on the bed and had choke marks on her neck.

Police launched an immediate investigation and within 12 hours had apprehended Wang.

The 48-year-old from Zhujiajiao Town in Qingpu had begun an affair with Shen while he was still married. Shen was divorced and lived with her daughter during that period, police said.

"Wang soon divorced and began to live together with Shen, which lasted for two years," said an official surnamed Shi in the Qingpu District Public Security Bureau.

"After their love affair turned sour, Wang separated from Shen and went back to live with his ex-wife."

However, Wang and Shen still stayed in contact, Shi said.

On February 17, Shen asked Wang to come to her apartment where it is alleged she demanded he pay for her daughter's tuition.

Shen threatened to tell his ex-wife about the love affair if Wang did not pay the money, Shi said.

Wang became so angry that he allegedly strangled Shen to death during a fight, police said. They said Wang also took Shen's cell phone and then fled the scene.
